Mountain Yellow Legged Frog

Scientific name: Rana muscosa
Common name:
Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog
Size: 2-3 in (5-7.5 cm)
Distinguishing characters:
A small frog species; lower abdomen and underside of hindlegs yellow or orange; yellowish or reddish color on dorsum with black or brown spots or blotches; smells like garlic when handled.

Juveniles: Similar to adults, but less color under legs.

Dimorphism: Male develops nuptial pads on thumb base during breeding season.

Additional notes: Uncommon or rare within study area; prefers mountain creeks and lakes.
