Twenty five years ago I began a journey to reclaim the
childlike purity of love and trust I'd all but forgotten
once existed. "Temple of the Rainbow" is the result
of this quest, showing that in all of life's promises, there
is nothing greater than love. The captivating story of
Freemont's journey reveals this search for a better life,
filled with adventures that forever change his life. |
Today, I ask myself do the imaginative exploits of one
Freemont Frog still have the ability to show the transforming
power of love, while at the same time, inform, inspire,
educate and hopefully change attitudes about our
responsibility as caretakers of a world that we and all other
creatures inhabit? The need for such change has never been
greater, especially for our younger generation who are the
inheritors of today's choices. To answer these questions one
needs to look at how this character came to be and why
Freemont's story continues to be relevant.
| Freemont's first mission was to show an angry, self-defeating
writer there was a way to face his repressed feelings, and do
so without self-destructing in the process. Within the
imaginative process of writing and rewriting a remarkable
thing started to happen. My heart began opening to greater
love, for myself and for all others. Thus, a story showing how
anger and fear transformed into love and compassion was
created. But there was more to the story. |
 |
The world of true
frogs was under attack. Species who had been in existence for
millons of years were going extinct at an alarming rate. And
the threat was not just limited to frogs.
 |
After a long hibernation, Freemont has reawakened. A renewable
mission is now taking form, a mission made just for Freemont
and his friend, Ray, who has been doing anything but
hibernating. Researching information on the effect of global
warming and other destructive activities on the environment,
reaching out to
people and organizations of like purpose, and
working on dramatic, adventure-filled sequels to his first
book, has helped keep the authors focus |
centered on future
goals.
| In future sequels Freemont will serve as a kind
of
spokes-frog, sharing stories of his remarkable adventures with
those who for the most part have no idea what lays beyond
their own habitats. As if viewed from a "frog's-eye"
perspective, readers will join Freemont as he experiences new
worlds, encounters further results of environmental hazards
far beyond his ability to understand, and greatest of all, a direct encounter with a mythical animal most |
|
often referred to
as the "man-creature."
 |
Based on interviews, questionnaires and reviews, the reception
from children, young people and adults has been very
rewarding. Yet long before Freemont's story was
published, he was making his way into the hearts of people of
all ages and walks of life. His loving, open-hearted presence
was already attached to home and office computer monitors,
placed on walls, bulletin boards, dashboards and carried in
wallets and purses. Freemont has reached the hearts |
of people here and abroad. And why is this?
We all have an inner yearning to find and embrace simpler,
more trusting times, times when our hearts were open to the
simple joys of life, when it was enough to be just who we are.
These are the qualities one feels when looking at Freemont, as
though one has just taken a peek into that secret, childlike
place within their own heart.
