HELP!!! I have a man made pond that houses 4 meduim size fish and has been home to a BIG bullfrog for the last year. I discovered recently that the frog had eaten 2 of my fish and I saw him eating a bird which led me to move him to a community lake about 4 blocks away. This frog has returned to my pond TWICE. Do frogs have a strong sense of direction? How does he keep coming back? I've looked on line for info but see nothing about frogs having a sense of direction. I don't want him to eat my fish but I feel bad moving him to an area miles away since he seems to love it here. Any suggestions?

My husband found two frogs in the window well of the house. The window well is at least 3 feet deep and I don't think there is any possible way for the frogs to hop out. I guess they have become pets now, but I feel like they should be placed on solid ground and be set free to roam around. We have a bowl of water, a toad house, rocks and a board for them to climb if they want to get out. Does this sound humane as long as they have insects and clean water?

HI Mairead,
I have done some research on the Green Frog, and from what I have come across there isnt many ways to answer your question. I would have to say once the frog looses his tail, which eventually he/she should, then it needs a half water half land aquarium.
"It can take them anywhere from 3 to 22 months to begin metamorphosis into full grown frogs. Some undergo this transition before the winter, but many tadpoles go into hibernation and wait until the spring to transform. Green frogs reach their maximum size when they are 4 to 5 years old.".

I have also found a bit of information on food they eat.."Green frogs are primarily carnivores and eat a wide variety of insects and other invertebrates from both land and water, such as slugs, snails, crayfish, spiders, flies, caterpillars, butterflies, and moths. They also eat other vertebrates, such as small snakes and frogs. Green frogs practice "sit and wait" hunting and therefore eat whatever comes within reach. Tadpoles mainly eat diatoms, algae, and tiny amounts of small animals such as zooplankton"
It would probably be better to have an aquarium that is at least part land and water rather than to just have an aquarium that just allows him to come up and breathe, so that when he does come up he can also have a place to hide if he feels threatened.
Green Frogs are highly aquatic and never venture to far from the water in the wild.

Hello :)
I have a green frog with only a little tail left from his tadpole stage. I know he's not eating now because of that. I was wondering if anyone knows if he will eat waxworms that you buy as bait. Also, a log of place say he should have a half water, half terrain tank. Will a fully aquatic tank be ok as long as he can sit on something to get to air? He's in with some fish right now and it's the only aquarium I have.
